CADETS PRACTICE ABOARD STS POGORIA
With the beginning of September foreign cadets at the Polish Naval Academy began their practical trainings aboard the sailing training ship STS POGORIA. The ship left the port of Gdynia for a month-long training cruise.
Regular crew of POGORIA was joined by 25 Kuwaiti and 10 Qatari cadets.
Foreign cadets onboard POGORIA were practicing navigation and regular seamen crew procedures. Route of the trip led across southern and western Baltic Sea areas, including the Danish straits. Program of the cruise included calling at the ports of Kiel in Germany
and Szczecin in Poland.
Main goals of the navigational training at sea are improvement of practical skills of navigation during watch at sea, defining the ships position by different methods, charts reading and use in navigation, astronavigation practicing, meteorology and oceanography exercises, training in radionavigation
and use of ship’s navigation onboard equipment.
The seamen crew procedures and skills training contains handling of ship’s equipment, organization and crewmembers duties performance, including watchman responsibilities and board alarm procedures.
The cadet’s training and POGORIA’s trip ended on the 30th of September, in the port of Gdynia.
