POLISH AND FOREIGN CADETS COME BACK FROM SEA JOURNEY

Written by

On Friday, the 27th of April at 1000 o`clock after over 70 days of sea journey to Gdynia port came back ORP WODNIK- the school vessel. The vessel sailed over 17 thousand sea miles while polish and foreign students of Polish Naval Academy served a specialistic apprenticeship, as well as astronavigational and marine. These were the first practices like that for our students from Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Qatar. The vessel visited Iraklion, Doha, Kuwait, Limassol and Ceuta.

ORP WODNIK left Gdynia port on Monday, February the 12ve, 2018 with 10 polish and 25 foreign cadets of the 3rd year of study. Now they have come back from their specialistic apprenticeship. While at sea they had the opportunity not only to strengthen their knowledge about navigation but also to train their astronavigational competencies.

Polish cadets, after 2nd year of study, do a long sea journey in the Mediterranean Sea area. During the sea journey they get to know principles of navigation while on watch and also navigational equipment of the vessel.

This was the first time for foreign students from Kuwait, Qatar and Saudi Arabia to be a part of such a big practice. While at sea they were divided on different school groups to be able to learn things essential for their level of study.

So for the cadets from Kuwait and Qatar it was an anstronavigational  practice.  As they were sailing on different water regions, they could use all the knowledge from studies.

Whereas for the Saudi Arabia cadets it was a marine practice while they were learning how to function on a marine vessel including marine watch system, conducting visual observation, steerage  of the vessel.

Practices on the Polish Naval vessels are periodic element of educational program for the future officers of Polish Naval Academy. Each year of studying ends with different practices. Yet before studies the future cadets undergo a special training which prepares them to a military life: they learn regulations, drill, safe operation of weapon and military equipment and they take part in their firs voyage on a military vessel. While studying they have to pass more and more complicated exams.

For the last 3 years Polish Naval Academy is also educating future officers from Qatar, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia.
