ACCREDITATIONSIn 2002 the State Accreditation Committee was established by Ministry of Education and Sports. It carries out evaluation of the quality of all courses of study offered by higher schools in Poland
Academic accreditation is almost the most important method of evaluating the quality of education in higher schools. The aim of accreditation is to find out if a school satisfies the standards and criteria related to the quality of education, and to perform appraisal whose results will be used to improve the quality. In the process of getting accreditation evaluated are: the mission of a school and the ways it is carried out as well as the results achieved. In other words, curricula, the way the educational process is organized, conditions of studying, (didactic facilities, living conditions, library, computerization), qualifications of teaching staff and research work projects they carry out, concern about future employment of graduates, and others. Community-based accreditation is initiated by the school interested in assessment of and improvements in the quality of education; it reflects the concern of the community about the quality of education. Community-based accreditation is voluntary based and the accreditation procedure results in identifying those courses of study which are characterized by high quality.
The information that a school has accreditation allows students to make a conscious choice of the higher school which provides knowledge and shapes skills and attitudes that can be useful in future work. The opinion by the State Accreditation Commission is obligatory; negative one leads, by decision of Minister of Science and Higher Education, to canceling or suspending the authority to offer given courses of study. In the future the employer will be looking for graduates possessing diplomas of a school which accepted the challenge of being evaluated and obtained the appropriate certificate. The State Accreditation Commission issued positive opinion, valid for 5 years, concerning the quality of education in relation to the course of mechanical engineering.
Education related to the course of navigation and the course of mechanical engineering meets the standards set by STCW 78/95 and expectations of MOD.
